The Professional Horse trainers always say that you should have a horse do everything on the ground before you ever get on it's back.  That is so true with the Lipizzaners.  When they came to town 90% of the show was the riders controling the horses from the ground.

 

The horses have not leg cues, they don't get cues of us shifting our weight.  They have to truely know what to do.  Horses that are taught everything on the ground make much ridding so much easier when in the saddle.
