RE: [RC] Starting an older horse - Ridecamp GuestPlease Reply to: Lauretta tikitiki69@xxxxxxxxxxx or ridecamp@xxxxxxxxxxxxx ========================================== I am not sure what someone considers old, but I have a stallion that I rescued that only been ridden a few times a couple of years ago and only started 'really' riding him when he was 14 (I gave him a couple of years off completely as he was a rack of bones w/ a skin on top when I got him; pretty bad shape) and just did LDs this year for the first time at age 15. He has done very well in the rides we have entered, and I am hoping to put him in 50's (and the Virginia City 100, cross my fingers) next year at age 16. I think it is not the age, but the horse's physical and mental capacity, that determines his progress and performance for whatever he does.... On another note, thanks to everyone who responded to my inquiry regarding bolting (this is the same horse who was chased by the kid on the 4 wheeler. Will try some of the recommendations for getting him over this. Thanks again!!!!! =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
