RE: [RC] Wintec Wide - Susan JonesSome early results of the Wintec Wide with my very wide, short backed, prominent withered gelding are that it's the first saddle I've put on him that gave him room in the shoulders and didn't bridge. Coming over from the quarter horse world, I had a Colorado Saddlery roper with full quarter horse bars. It fit the best but was a poor fit because it was too long so put pressure on the loins, too narrow and bridged slightly. A Thorowgood endurance wide tree was too narrow and bridged horribly. A Big Horn 119, too narrow, some bridging. The Wintec Wide with the Wide-2 gullet seems to fit evenly on his back and gives room for the shoulders to move. There's plenty of clearance for the spine and withers. When I first put it on him, Clue had the oddest look on his face. We walked a while with it on and he held his head in a low position that looked like he was wondering when it was going to start hurting. At least that was the best interpretation I could find. The saddle has what they call a narrow waist for the rider that's supposed to make riding a wide horse more comfortable. The jury's still our on that part, but it's such a delight to find something that fits his back that we'll work with it for now.
