Re: [RC] Response to Tiffany's Letter - Tiffany D'VirgilioJill, my thinking is this. The list owner has asked that a subject be closed. There are many closed subjects on this and most lists. It is her right to ask that no more posts on a certain topic be made. She isn't saying don't discuss speed, she is saying don't discuss camel jockeys. Camel jockeys are not an endurance riding topic. She has every right to ask that it be kept off list. Most list owners are open about discourse within the framework and rules of the group. No one has the right to keep on posting about a disallowed subject. If they do, Steph has the right to remove the person from the list. Especially when they state they know it isn't allowed and do not and will not let the subject drop. I own a music discussion list. No politics or OT posts. Someone keeps posting about politics, I will remove them. Point blank. It's "my house", and I get to make the rules. Don't belong to my list if you can't follow the rules or have no interest in following the rules. It takes a significant amount of time to moderate and own a list. I try to respect the people who give time offering me a service by obeying the rules. It's called courtesy. When I go and compete at a ride, I follow the ride rules or risk being disqualified. Just because you participate in a group does not mean you get to CHOOSE what rules you are going to follow. I belong to the AERC, I follow the rules, I have a driver's license, I follow the rules. It isn't about the media and persons non-grata. It's about having respect for others, ride managers, list owners, what have you. Steph is nice enough to provide this forum, and when she asks that a list rule of OT posts be respected, I will respect it.
