Re: [RC] CTR's in WA and TX - heidiThere are only 6 different AERC ride days for the state of Washington listed for 2004.(one ride is a 2 day) So distance riding is just not a thriving sport in WA like it is in other states. There are 18 AERC ride days in TX for 2004 (some rides offer more than one day) We had 10 NATRC rides just in Texas (more for the region if you counted Oklahoma and Louisiana) in 2004. So down this way, distance riding is very active. Most of the NATRC rides are full. (usually a limit to 60 riders, often a waiting list) Well, it's all relative.... :-) I've driven across both Texas and Washington, and would submit that there's room for WAY more than 3 times as many rides in Texas... <g> Also, I rode Home on the Range in Washington this year, and it had something like 165 entries, so I'd say distance riding is thriving pretty well there. :-) Never mind that a whole host of Washingtonians also support the rides in Oregon and Idaho regularly as well... We used to have an active CTR circuit in Idaho and western Montana, but it has died out. Endurance got a strong early start in the NW, and I think just more or less eclipsed CTR. Both are great sports, although I personally prefer endurance, and for CTR, I personally like the rule systems and protocols in several CTR organizations better than NATRC's. Just what happens to float my boat, and I remain grateful for having cut my teeth on the Bitterroot CTR circuit back in olden times.
