I sorta had the same question. When we put a foam pad on our bed, I sweat like no tomorrow....and I'm cold-blooded like you, I'm happy at 90 degrees!

RE: [RC] [RC] Equipedic and Research on Phase Change Material
Ok. I am going to jump in on this one. I have been wanting a new pad for a
while and like what I have heard on the Equipedic. but I just don't get it.
I have a memory foam mattress cover, under a standard quilted cover, on my
bed. It retains heat like there is no tomorrow. My husband bought me an
electric blanket to use when he deploys (I am cold blooded, LOL!) But since
I put the memory foam on my bed I never use it anymore. Dead of winter, (CA
winter) in the 30's, and I am sweating in my bed. Am I missing something
about this pad that it doesn't do this to the horses back?
I just can't bring myself to spend $200+ on a pad "just to see if it does
what it claims"

For those who hate the scientific let me explain what I understand is
the concept behind phase change material. It's based on physics (yikes! - I
took physics in high school and the best thing about physics was the
wonderful guys that sat beside and behind me - what a fun class - never got
the physics part - LOL). Well anyway when you drop an ice cube in water it
turns the water cold. You think it turns cold because the ice is cold and
therefore makes the water cold - right? Nope, wrong. When you put the ice
in the water it draws the heat from the water to melt the ice. When the
heat is removed from the water it becomes cooler. Voila (took French too)
the concept - the phase change material in the Equipedic Pad draws the heat
from the horse's back and therefore the back is cooler. It works.
