There is no AERC rule against it. I vaguely recall there having been some statement about horses not requiring "undue hazing" but this isn't in the rules (maybe the vet handbook, I don't know), but even so, I doubt that using a stick as a cue (unless you are beating the horse with it) would be described as undue hazing. kat Orange County, Calif. >> Well, well, and I thought it was a rule to not carry a whip during trot outs... My horses usually trot out well, but much better if I'm carrying the 'captain of the ship stick'.... NATRC allows you to carry a whip during the trot outs, but you must carry it at the check in if you will be carrying it at the check out. Can't say that I've ever seen a whip of any kind at an endurance ride here in the SE during a trot out. Just assumed it was a rule. I often wondered why, as so many horses are not trotting out well at all, which requires the vet or his helpers to do the 'hazing' just to see the horse do some sort of trot... That can be exhausting. Jan =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
