Re: [RC] Equipedic and Research on Phase Change Material - Peter HarperKaren, The idea is that the moisture wicks to the top of the pad and evaporates removing the heat with it. Your correct that the saddle will limit evaporation were it is covered. I read the US Patent office file on holofibers and they sound pretty "cool". Holofibers are a blend of synthetic and natural fibers specifically design to wick moisture away from the skin. Silver fibers are added to improve heat transfer and as an anit-fungal.Now I can see this aiding in the cooling of the horse. The horse sweats, the pad wicks the moisture away from the skin were it evaporates providing active cooling process. ______ *I am questioning this claim on all of the pads.....where is the moisture going? It's going into the pad....okay, some is leaving the horse, which helps....but eventually, the foam in the pad (skito, toklat, equipedic), is going to get extremely soggy...where does the moisture and head go? Can it go out the top of the pad? Logically, I say no...since there is a saddle and maybe 180 lb rider on top....seems like the moisture will squish back and forth between the underside of the saddle and the hair of the horse.....how does this help cool the horse?
