Re: [RC] [RC] Unabashed plug for helmets - Kristen A FisherAnd don't forget, just because your helmet is not shattered does not mean it is still fully protective - their protective abilities can be compromised even if the helmet looks fine. I am getting ready to send one back to Troxel this week for a replacement [and getting another Troxel to fill in for it in the meantime!] Kristen in TX I thwacked my head a couple of months ago on hard packed sand. That was my first head-impact launching and I was glad I had the helmet on. Familiar trails, seasoned horse, semi-planned dismount (landed butt first), but I hung onto the reins for some reason (let go!!) and the horse was spooking backwards so that I whip-lashed back and the back of my head hit the packed ground HARD. The impact hurt despite the helmet and I had a headache for two days. After doing a parts assessment, I was able to hop back on and complete my conditioning ride. Can't imagine the consequences without the helmet. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
