[RC] fear when mounting/dismounting - Ed Kilpatrick

hi mel,  ok, now i understand a bit better.   so you are jumpy, anticipating something that might not happen, and sometimes make your horse jumpy by "telegraphing" your fear.

i would suggest lots of mounts/dismounts in a safe environment (arena) with someone to help you.   just do all kinds of sloppy dismounts intentionally,  stand with one foot in the stirrup, practice dropping your right leg down, then bounce right back up into the saddle.  mount and dismount from the right side of your horse and teach him to stand for that.  who knows, that might be your best side!  some people actually do mount/dismount better on the right side of the horse.  once you realize that you are probably in no more danger than you are getting out of your truck, you will relax and do much better.      ed
