Re: [RC] Fear - Susan CroftCouldn't agree more - gadgets on a horse are very limited in solving problems, in fact often add to the problems by the horses' reaction to the tack! I also had a very serious accident a few years ago . What I have done is start wearing a body protector (Tipperary is light and comfy) , always wore a helmet, and have started riding in an aussie saddle (synthetic) I find the Poleys on the saddle are very helpful on "catching" you on sideways spooks -That said , no body protector , helmet, or saddle can guarantee no injuries, they can only increase the chances of surviving a bad wreck . And for me they have helped with the fear factor. I now tell myself I have taken every precaution I can , make sure the horses I choose to ride are well trained and sensible and get down to the business of having fun on the trails! The mental part varies in how long it can take to overcome. I would strongly suggest not rushing a return, take baby steps and with time it will fade. Worked for me!
