Re: [RC] Fear - heidiI think it's a matter of percentages. You start keeping score the day you get hurt. This is sure true for me, Angie. If I get hurt on a much-trusted horse, it seems like just a fluke, whereas a far lesser "episode" on a new horse will have me shaking in my shoes about getting on again. That said, I've also been pretty lucky--I've never been really SERIOUSLY hurt in a riding accident. Bruised and sore, yes--but never anything broken. The worst injuries I've had have been when horses have actually fallen--and that remains my worst fear. My three worst injuries were from falls, but still did not involve my head or break any bones. I also think that a certain amount of gymnastic training in HOW to fall helps a great deal. I had some, and it helps--my husband is far more gymnastic than I (less "training" but FAR superior reflexes and much forethought into the process), and can come off of a horse with very little trauma to himself whatsoever.
