[RC] horse trailer floor - Ridecamp Guest

I have taken out the rubber matts that came with my new horse trailer and see 
thar the plank floor has not been treated with anything to preserve 
it.shouldn't it be?also,was told I should drill holes to let it drain,wouldn't 
that just alow water off the road in?if I should put preservitive on,what 
kind?Thanks
