Re: [RC] Purina Athlete. l-tryptophan - Ed & Wendy Hauser

"....L-Tryptophan is an amino acid, not a drug. ....."
And we need to be reminded that Rule 13 is a substance rule not a DRUG RULE.

If you fed a whole bunch of L-Tryptophan to your horse on the day of a ride, and it calmed him, you would be in violation of rule 13.   Now, it you feed Ultium, where L-Tryptophan is listed way way down on the list of ingredients two things change.  First, it is now a natural substance in normal amounts and thus is allowed.  Secondly, it will not make your horse sleepy and thus calmer.

The Purina web site, says that the mental effects are caused by the increase in fat and fiber in the diet.  That is what Susan G has been preaching for many years.

Does anyone have the analysis and list of ingredients on Athlete??
