Re: [RC] Weather Change Colic - heidiOkay, are you saying daily wormer causes anterior enteritis? We don't know. But there were some pretty strong correlations between being on daily dewormers and quite a number of the early anterior enteritis cases that we saw in endurance horses. I doubt that it has a direct causitive effect--but I personally suspect that it alters the gut flora in a way that may predispose horses to anterior enteritis. JMO, and that of several of the other vets who saw the same pattern. And several of us thought it significant simply because not that many endurance horses were on the daily dewormers. It has only been in the last few years that I've heard of cases of anterior enteritis in endurance horses that were NOT on daily dewormers. Which makes me wonder if there is also something else we are doing that is influencing the small intestine to go haywire in such a manner, since this is a fairly uncommon sort of occurrence.
