[RC] re: insurance companies dont tell people that they "can't" do - A. PerezAdditionally, insurance companies don?t tell people that they "can't" do this or that. They just tell them that if they do, they aren't insured for it. At which time, individuals can decide whether they want to shoulder the risk themselves...or pony up extra for the insurance." I know this is OT but I just can't let this one pass because it is one of my pet peeves. yes, Insurance companies DO tell us what we can and can't do: case in point: many insurance companies, in states that don't have laws forbidding it, will not write a home-owners policy if you allow any one of a list of 'forbidden breeds' on your property. No, I do not mean they won't insure you for dog-bite liability, I mean they won't insure you. period. I was told when I recently insured a property that if the insurance company discovered I allowed a visitor to bring a rottweiler on my property my coverage would be cancelled on the spot. When I asked if I could simply waive coverage for liability in case of dog bite I was told "No: no policy- period." No option to pay more for a rider, no alternative period. Fortunately my rottie cross was listed as a mutt: had she been a pure-bred, I'd have been shown the door. I followed this up with the company and the ASPCA: this is not uncommon, and has lead to some states prohibiting breed-based exclusions by insurers. ________________________________________________ Get your own "800" number Voicemail, fax, email, and a lot more http://www.ureach.com/reg/tag =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
