Re: [RC] over populated 'crappy' horses - heidi(And > far> too many of them dump their colts unregistered, because they simplyare> NOT marketable as riding horses...I don't get it. I've got three unregistered purebred geldings out here. Their owners knew they were good horses when they produced them but as geldings didn't see that it was worth the cost (for them) to register them. They were bred to perform and lack of papers never hurt them any. I just bought two new horses...one's registered, one isn't. Unless the sweepstakes thing on the registered one happens to pay off someday there'll be no other difference to me. The distinguishing factor that you mention here is that they were bred to perform. I hate to see people not register their foals--it is a cryin' shame. But as you say, if they were well-bred, the presence or absence of their papers does not change their capabilities. The sorts of unregistered colts I'm talking about are those bred by the show barns, with little respect for "using traits"---such colts tend to just "disappear." <sigh> Heidi =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
