Re: [RC] Over population of crappy horses ~ whose fault? - heidiI see it all the time; downhill, ewe necked, sway backed, angle-legged, oh, you name it. On both sides. When I say, "This horse's withers prevent it from being ridden the way you want because they make the saddle fall behind its center of gravity. Your weight will always interfere with the horse by causing you to ride behind the horse. It is always out of balance which makes it undependable." The response is almost always, "Well, she's happier producing babies anyway." Why breed a horse you don't like, can't ride, can't handle, can't whatever with? Why breed to one who cannot stand scrutiny? I dunno, Marv, but you're right, it happens all the time. Although the perfect horse has yet to be born, at the very least, I can't imagine breeding one that I personally would not want to get on and ride. I don't mind "after-market" problems in breeding stock (ie injuries, etc.) provided they are not the result of the sorts of things you are talking about, but horses are supposed to be riding animals, and if they lack the basics of conformation and temperament to be such, they shouldn't reproduce, regardless of gender or surgical status...
