Re: [RC] Mares as Riding Horses - Chris PausActually, I think the reverse is true. I've found mares to be generous and brave and have a lot of heart, but they also are in my experience, better at taking care of themselves. It's the mare thing to know when to eat and drink... the survival of the herd depends on it. I have one gelding who will take very good care of himself on a ride. He's an eating machine and the ride is a big horsey smorgasbord. I have another gelding who has taken years to learn that, and still won't eat or drink much until the first loop is behind him. I have't competed on my mare yet, but she is proving herself a lot on trail. I've owned a lot of mares and they all have been brave and forward moving, yet generous and kind animals. chris --- Dbeverly4@xxxxxxx wrote: <<They'll go until they drop. I do NOT want to ride a horse who will "go until they drop". I'm sure that's not true of all mares (the going till they drop thing), but thinking that's a "good" thing is a scary thought to me personally.
