Re: [RC] Questiions about Gelding a Colt - melanie . oI *GAVE* away the last colt my mare had. You can't convince me that snipping their "boys" doesn't take half their brain with, and I've already got a big, dumb, dopey (neutered) male dog, I didn't want an ever bigger, dumb, dopey horse. I only keep the fillies. You might have to "discuss" things w/ a mare, but thank god they've got a mind of their own. That being said, if you are intent on keeping this colt, I'd geld him right away. The only thing worse than a big dumb horse is a big hormone-driven horse. The bigger he gets, the harder it will be for both of you. OTOH, if he is that great (and it's so hard to tell at his age) that he must be kept as a stallion, I'd get him off to a breeding facility soon so that he can start to learn some manners both from the people and the horses that are in the breeding business. mel
