[RC] re: [RC] more odd, obscure questions - Michelle FinkHi Karen, It probably varies a lot. I got my OTT Arab from Bobbi Richine, and the mare had been ridden on hills before she was ever raced. She didn't have some of the typical OTT horse problems - eg. not knowing how to walk on ground that isn't flat. You probably need to find out the specifics of the conditioning routine for the horse you are interested in. I rode my mare for 6 months on hills & rough terrain working primarily on rate (being able to slow down or STOP!) and building up her back and loin muscles before trying a 40 mile CTR on her. Her legs and heart could have probably done a 50 the day I got her. Would not have been able to stop her, and I am not sure her back would have fared well... Happy Trails, Michelle (Colorado) Also.....for folks that are buying off the track Arabs for endurance horses; I am wondering how much legging up they actually have....are they just breezed (cantered) and galloped? Do they do any trotting? What would be the time frame for getting one leggged up on hills and rough terrain? =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
