Re: [RC] Questiions about Gelding a Colt - rides2far@xxxxxxxxI keep that saying in mind, along with "You tell a gelding, ask a >>stallion and discuss it with a mare." My favorite is "Stallions are from Mars, Mares are from Venus, Geldings are from *Heaven*. :-) All my horses are male (5 geldings)and my dogs are females. It's a rule around here. When I was 17 I got a 2 year old stallion off the track. My dad said, "Maybe we should wait" (about gelding him). Then he said, "Maybe we should breed him once, then geld him"...to which I replied, "It would be a no win situation...if it's a great colt you'd wish you hadn't gelded him...if it's junk you've got junk". First time I ever called the vet in my life. I made the appointment myself. My dad was shocked. My mom was shocked that I sat on my horse's neck while the vet gelded him. Looking back I'm impressed that I was such a smart kid. :-) I am very grateful that there are people out there who keep stallions so I don't have to. Beth, if he's good enough to keep a stallion I'd sell him to somebody who needed a stallion.
