Re: [RC] trailering, unloading, rest stops, truck stops, shavings, Oh my - heidiJonni (about matching Laura in travel mileage with the horses this summer....I logged 7200 miles on the truck and trailer) Guess it must be the wide-open spaces here... Just totted up our horsey travels this summer, and we've logged about 9200 miles on the horse trailer so far, and we haven't really BEEN much of anywhere. And we have another 4100 yet to drive, with two more rides and a broodmare delivery trip still on the calendar. In my younger years, it was not uncommon to haul upwards of 30,000 miles in a year, and back then I lived much closer to the rides--but did a lot more hauling of breeding stock and younguns to and from various places. Now I live where it is usually a 600+ mile round trip to a ride (the closest ride is a 450-mile round trip), but my trips to places like Texas and southern CA are much less frequent, so it doesn't seem like we haul all that much at all. I've always wondered what it must be like to be able to wait 3 months to service a rig, but can't remember ever taking that long to run up the allotted between-service mileage.... <sigh> Heidi (whose Powerstroke is overdue for service--AGAIN!) PS: Mileage aside, Jonni's post was right-on. You have to do what is right for YOU and YOUR horses. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
