RE: [RC] Scurfing *not* caused by girthss?? - Eric Drewwow perfect timing for that info, My guy Porter is going through the same thing. It's my first fall season with him and this is the first time I'd seen and skin irritation. His winter coat starting coming in the last 2 weeks....guess I'll take a wait and see attitude --- Eric Drew --- eidrew@xxxxxxxxxxxxx --- [Original Message] From: <rides2far@xxxxxxxx> To: <ridecamp@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Date: 9/18/04 7:14:17 PM Subject: [RC] Scurfing *not* caused by girthss?? Tried to get your attention with that subject line. >g< Went out to ride today and saw Rock had the flakey skin & irritation in the girth area from the ride last week. Then when I groomed him I saw he had the scurfing even where the flaps of the saddle had been. Remembered several people thinking their girths were causing problems this week...then remembered reading that some big German dressage guy claimed that all horses' skin is sensitive when they are switching from summer to winter coat and visa versa and that he doesn't even ride them at that time. Rock started getting the beginnings of a winter coat between the two rides. Seems to me that maybe it's not the girths but the skin?? Rock did a 50 a few weeks ago and had absolutely *no* skin problem. Did a 50 this week and we've got flaking and irritation. I used to think the scurfing in the spring was caused by our clipping every March but now I'm wondering if that wasn't the "change of coat" time too? I originally thought the idea was silly but now I'm beginning to wonder. If you change from neoprene now and it clears up in a couple of weeks you'll think it was the neoprene. I think I'd try it again in a month or two after the coat is in and see. Angie Not the quarry but the chase. Not the trophy but the race. ________________________________________________________________ Get your name as your email address.
