Sorry but have to NOT agree that a truck stop is
safer. HOWEVER, one must realize that anyplace but home sweet home is
going to be more dangerous to a horse. I rarely stop at truck stops
as they are REALLY busy with traffic in and out and those TRUCKS are HUGE.
I am just a little ole pickup with a horse/stock trailer. For the
most part just did not need to unload but I can sure see the value if one is
heading for an important ride and the horse loads easily. Most of mine
have been reasonable loaders. All have been good eaters and
drinkers.

Also, only one
time in 6000 miles did we un-load at a rest area. It is DANGEROUS! You are
right on the side of an interstate and the only choice that horse is going
to have if he gets loose is to run out on the highway... Do your un-loading
at the same time you need fuel. Pick truck stops as they have plenty of
parking and usually a grassy perimeter in which you can get away from the
big rigs and let them graze. Use common sense.
