[RC] Eating dirt - Ridecamp Guest

==========================================

I to have a horse that finds particular places to eat dirt.
There are places on trail that he will come to a screaming
halt just to eat the dirt. I have asked several vets about
it and they have all said they don't know why some horses do
that but not to worry about it. It may or may not be a mineral
deficiency. My recollection is that several studies have been
done to see if horses "know" when they are deficient in minerals
and specifically eat those minerals. The results do not show
that they do. If someone has scientific evidence to the
contrary. I'd like to know.
