RE: [RC] [RC] [RC] how to subscribe to Tome Ivers list? - Howard BramhallThe last time I spoke with Tom, via email, I don't think he was totally against using fats. He just said that you shouldn't use them the day of the race/run (thoroughbred/endurance). In fact, I do think Susan Garlinghouse and he both agreed (finally) that you should stop using fats 72 hours or so before the actual event. Tom, of course, is pro carbs, and, back then and still today, Susan was pro fats. I do think Susan was one of the first to state you can do both, when she gave her talk at the AERC Convention I attended last year. I do believe carbo loading is alive and well within the endurance world, especially Internationally. Tom Ivers had been, and, still is, the primary promoter of this concept. When Susan even mentioned it in her talk, I was actually blown away since I thought it was one of those forbidden topics; something that was there, but, no one wanted to stick their necks out (except Tom) and discuss it. The big deal over Bill Proctor and his endurance record was all about carbo loading. Bill was promoting Tom's product. I would love to see more discussion about the carbo loading because I do believe it's being used and some would say (besides Tom or Bill) that it does have merit. Is it a forbidden subject in the endurace world (that sure shouldn't stop a discussion of it on Ridecamp), or, has it come and gone, over time? I really don't know but would love to hear from others on this one. cya, Howard (we know are proud owners of 22 acres in Tennessee; yea, baby) ----Original Message Follows---- From: Ridecamp Guest <guest-owner@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> To: <ridecamp@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Subject: [RC] [RC] how to subscribe to Tome Ivers list? Perez >>I tried googling Tom Ivers but found no links to his board. Any clues?<< http://groups.yahoo.com/group/horsescience/ I just joined due to this discussion here (I was curious) and because I thought his bowed tendon book was good. Just in looking at the last few days' posts on his list, I can see the attitude people are mentioning. He's also pretty rabid about feeding fats. Kinda sounds like it's the #1 sin in his mind. Oh, well, sure isn't going to stop me from feeding fats -- I like the results I can see in my horses too much. And I trust Susan G's advice, since she's a nutritionist AND an endurance rider & vet. I see the point of avoiding fats right before race day (especially if planning to actually *race*), but that's what Susan G recommends last time I looked. Ivers seems to be saying that feeding fats to any athletic horse is absolutely horrid. ~Nicole =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
