Re: [RC] Chain on a Kimberwicke - Ed & Wendy HauserBack in my cowboy (wannabe) days, I used western curb bits on all my horses. I got tired of replacing the western curb chains because the leather rotted from slobber etc. I put English chains on all my bits and found them to be much more satisfactory. After Al (an unregistered Arabian gelding), taught me that a snaffle allowed one rein commands (like whoa, sidepass, pay-attention-stupid, etc) I switched to egg butt snaffles and have never looked back. My goal since has been to train my horses to rate and generally obey with only light rein pressure. I don't consider a horse a good mount until you can drop the reins to adjust things or drink and he/she stays at the same gait and follows the trail. As I am not a particularly good trainer, it usually takes me a few years, but surely is worth it. I just don't like to jerk a horses head around for 15 miles before he/she will listen.
