       Here's a great way to clean the abcess holes - go back to vet and get large IV (fluid) bag.  Cut off top of bag.  Put in an inch or so of epsom salt and water.  Get some light packing tape.  Put foot inside bag and tape to leg (not to hair, but about an inch below where the bag ends).  Make sure you fold over the tape at the end so you can have an easy starting place to pull the tape off.   Walk horse on lead.  The action of walking forces the salt water up into the hole, and when the foot lifts, the weight of the bag and water sucks the gucky stuff out.  Mix up some sugardine which is betadine and sugar mixed to a consistency of ice tea.  Place sugardine on a diaper and place diaper on foot.  Cover entire diaper with duct tape (where we we be without duct tape!) to keep the sugardine in and junk out.
