Nope, they do NOT measure like a standard Western
Saddle.......
Here is how you measure them........you basically measure
the smallest distance that your thigh will fit, straight across. This is
from the corner of the cantle straight across to where it hits the pommel.....A
15" seat will measure 9" at that spot.....a 14" seat will measure 8"
(add 6" to these measurements are you get the seat size).
Gerri Rini may do a better job explaining it on her
website....www.sportsaddle.com
I personally would not buy one over 15 1/2"......I think
they just get too long at 16" and start to not distribute
weight as well..... anyway, a 15 1/2 is a pretty big
seat....
I am 6 ft. tall, weight 140 and am very comfortable in a
14": seat.. I do like a snug seat, however. My daugther has
a
15" endurance and it is way too big for me....however I
have a deeper seat 15" Western Circle Y Bob Marshall that is very comfortable
for me. Stirrup position can make a big difference too......
Hope this helps, happy to answer any more
questions....
Does the BM Sport Saddle measure the same size as a regular western
saddle? Measuring from the back of the pommel to the
top inside rim of the cantle?
I ordered one last week and am waiting for it to come in 8-12
weeks. I measured my thigh and looked at the chart to see what size
I would order, but it puts me in a much larger seat (16 1/2") than my western
saddle (15 1/2")
Someone is selling a used one on Ebay so I asked them to send me a
photo of the saddle with a measuring tape from the pommel to the
cantle. The saddle is suppose to be a 16" but if I was going to measure
it the same way I would measure my western saddle it would be a 20" instead of
a 16", measuring from the pommel to the inside top rim of the cantle.
If indeed it is not measured the same as a regular western
saddle..............why not? Doesn't your butt sit in the same spot as it
would in a regular western saddle? LOL
