[RC] Owyhee rides or BUST oops I mean dust:-) - Paddi
Just getting settled from a week at
endurance.net central.
Steph and John once again entertained
us all with great fun.
I was there as a vendor Canadian
Trail House not a rider but still had lots of fun.
It is great to put faces to the
people I talk to on the phone and meet new friends.
The first thing I noticed was that
all the people living in the Owyhee area seem to be thin. I assumed the hot
temps of the desert keeps them dehydrated to a thin wispy form but when the
winds picked up and the sand started blowing it was very clear they are all sand
blasted and that is why they all look so good. The desert is better then a
health spa.
I did not encounter any snakes this
time. Kathy Irvine also from Alberta informed me there are no snakes around.
Steph cut the last ones tail off with a hoe when it was hanging out in the
garden area. She passed this information along while I was knee deep in tomatoes
plants ...eek
no more garden raiding
for me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The 100 mile ride was amazing. Not a
single pull for metabolic.
The only IV bottle hanging
was attached to Leonard from Belgium. He did complete in 10th place on
my favorite horse THE GREAT SANTINI. Teenie looked great and brought Leonard
safely in.
Leonard was fine the next
day.
One of the riders said it was hard
riding in the dust. The trail was hidden in 12 inches of dust stirred up by the
horses. It made footing hard and horses stumbled as they tired. They could not
see where to place there feet.
FOOD!! Bill (the chef) Jay , Linda
and Mike fed everyone like kings. The food was amazing and prepared like a 5
star restaurant.
The tables were decorated with fancy
center pieces. Table clothes. It was truly amazing.
We all snacked on dates from the
UAE....yummy ... chocolate coated , great for a really good sugar
high.
Kathy Irvine and Terry B. (sorry
Terry I can't remember your last name) ran the office with smiles and hard work.
>From what I could tell this ride was running like clock work! Such a great job
by all the helpers and volunteers.
The Multiday ride looked like it was
lots of fun. I love the multidays rides.
It was hot and dusty and I was
wishing for Alberta cool. ( Be careful what you wish for I came home to
snow)
Weather permitting I hope to make it
back to ride the Canyonlands 5 day ride.
Steph and John with their team of
volunteers make these rides the best.
Thanks to everyone for their
hospitality.
