Re: [RC] cinch irritation - Karen Sullivanoh crap.......(just read Heidi's post) I have used neoprene cinches at least 10 years on probably at least 10 horses with absolutely no problem......except...... Now seeing some hair loss on the 5 year old buckskin....started with flakiness, a bit of tenderness... truly looked like a fungus type of thing....I cleaned really well, got crud off and have been cleaning twice a day with betadine then applying Clotrimazole ointment. Seemed to be working on left side, hair coming back.....but now I am seeing hair loss on the right side. Yet....small spots of hair loss on neck that also look like fungus.....so hard to tell, is it neoprene problem or fungus?? Two other friends this time of year are having problems with skin fungus.....probably oak mite fungus that Calif horses get... Then again, I am observing this buckskin seems to be slower to heal on cuts than the other horses. So I may switch to wool pronto...guess nothing wrong with having backup wool cinch...darn because I liked how clean neoprene is, doesn;'t get soaked with sweat, etc.... I've had two horses that were allergic to the neoprene--one came on more slowly, with just flakiness and tenderness at first, and finally breaking out in small eruptions.
