Re: [RC] 'pound dog' mentality for horses? - heidi

In the human world - none of it has to do with breeding or genes. In
human running, the world record for the mile was about 4:40 100 years
ago and today it is a minute faster. One hundred years ago the record
for a TB in a mile was only a few seconds slower than today. Humans
breed at random, horse are selectively bred for speed. Doesn't sound
like the breeding program it's working very well, does it?

Well, actually, it sounds like breeding worked very well--but that it has
gotten to the extent of the capability of the being. Whereas in humans,
where there IS no specific selection, there is still plenty of room for
improvement...

Cinderellas are made not born - they work to get where they are
independent of the fact that they are not suppose to be able to do what
they do.

I'd wager that all of the successful athletes (or successes at much of
anything else) had to work to get there. What makes Cinderella stories
"news" is that no matter HOW hard you work, it is still much more rare to
"get there" from a random background than it is from a known background.
It is the rarity of anything that makes it news.

Heidi
