One of General Dickenson's daughters, Maxie Dickenson Decker, is writing a book
about riding the arabians she grew up with. She and her sister, as youngsters
rode the families stallions. She sent me a copy of a chapter a year ago, about
their groom/trainer in Tn. teaching the arabs to be 5 gaited, which was very
common to do then. In her mind, all arabians can be 5 gaited with training. Her
father was instrumental in forming the Tn. Walking breed registry also, and had
and trained both kinds of horses.Their farm was just outside Nashville, Tn.
Maxie and her (then) husband both rode NATRC and endurance in the 50's and
60's in California, and her name when was Maxie Riggs, her husband, Woody
Riggs. I think her horse was called "Suds", and was a morab. I will post a link
when the book about training the arabs in 5 gait comes out.
She always admired my arabs when we went camping together, and now I ride
gaited (walking, SSH's) horses, so I am always asking her questions about gait,
the past, and especially all about her crazy stories...and she has plenty of
them.
