[RC] height of horses - Ridecamp GuestPlease Reply to: Nicole z_arabs@xxxxxxxxx or ridecamp@xxxxxxxxxxxxx ========================================== that tall -- there are some very good taller (and also shorter) horses out there, to judge them by size would be like judging them by color. :=) I think that a taller horse has just as good a chance of lasting a long time in this sport as a smaller horse, it all depends on the individual horse and how it is managed. Karen 17.0 1 16.1 1 16.0 1 15.3 2 15.2 5 15.1 8 15.0 10 14.3 9 14.2 4 14.1 3 You have enough samples here to be signficant, but what you need to draw any conclusions is what's the distribution of the overall population. If the distribution is the same, then it tells us that height doesn't really predict how long a horse can compete. If they're different, then that would be interesting. Nothing about height -- even knowing the distribution in the overall population -- would allow anyone to draw any conclusions. Karen did point that out: it's about the individual and how it is managed. The height itself is either not a factor one way or the other or so minimal as to be negligible. Height doesn't make the horse conformationally or metabolically sound. Height does not affect the horse's mental attitude. And height shouldn't affect whether or not the horse had humans in it's life that had the goals of reaching the Perfect 10 (or any other particular goals being looked at in a particular study set). That 17 hander stands out on that list. That horse would also stand out as there are few 17 hand horses in this sport (so it would be statistically interesting). However, I doubt the fact that the horse is/was 17 hands is WHY it reached the levels that it did. It did what it did because of it's individual qualities, and because the humans involved had the drive and perserverance to reach those levels. ~Nicole =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
