[RC] Need feedback making a decision - Kristi Schaaf

Julienne -
I've been in your position, and I chose to do the LD.
We'd done plenty of CTR's in the past, but I chose LD
when bringing my horse back after several years off
from distance riding, mainly because I could do
whatever pace was best for us at the ride. If you
choose LD, one thing you can do that may help with
your mare's antics at the start is to wait 10 minutes
or so till everyone else has gone out. Then it will be
just you and her on the trail going on a 'pleasure
ride'. Since all I care about is finishing, I often do
this, and usually it works great. But, at my last
ride, quite a few people had that in mind and I found
myself in a pack, so I admit that it's not always easy
to find that quiet pocket. I had to chuckle at your
vet patience level comparison between AERC and CTR. My
horse apparently lost his brain during his 3 year
layoff and I am quite embarrassed by the way he's
currently acting at vet checks (in his defense, his
buddies are at the trailer screaming for him). I'd be
losing lots of points in a CTR for it, but the
endurance vets consider it no big deal. One nice vet
this weekend actually wrote 'perky' for attitude on
the vet card; I would have called it 'being a
butthead'. Kristi
