[RC] Getting in the trailer - Tina HicksAug 2004, Carol wrote: Ed, I don't agree. You're dealing with a thousand pound animal. You need to be in control of him or he will walk all over you. Too many people are not dominate over their horses. These are the ones that are getting Are you aware of the _zillion_ of ways, both big and small, that horses "dominate" each other?? I'm not and I doubt there are many people out who would try to say they are. If you are and can have your horse do _everything_ you want him to do because you are truly _dominant_ over him then you really should hang out your shingle and start giving clinics - you could make a mint. As for me, I'll settle for teaching my horse what I want while accepting that there will be times due to fear, frustration, or lack of knowledge I won't get that. Then I need to ask differently. "Asking" doesn't mean I always say "here horsey horsey would you please humour me by doing X". It means I have set up a line of communication with my horse based on a foundation I've laid along the way. That foundation allows me to, at times, say "I hate that you'd rather not do this today but we're gonna do it anyway" - that doesn't happen too often and if it does then I know I need to go back to the drawing board. Try it sometime - it works wonders. Tina =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
