Re: [RC] [RC] Hot Nail - Maggie MieskeI agree that everyone should learn how to pull a shoe if necessary and your farrier can show you how to do this quite easily. HOWEVER, PLEASE don't remove the other shoe. The horse can go with one on and one off without a problem. If you remove the other shoe, your farrier has to reset BOTH shoes. This involves time and money for which you will be charged. AND CALL RIGHT AWAY! Don't wait two or three days and then decided, oh, gee, I want to ride Pookie tomorrow and that dang shoe is still off. Chances are (if your farrier is Nelson anyway) that Nelson drove right by your house the same day it happened and could have had that shoe back on in ten minutes or less. However, Pookie has now been running around, busting his foot up and it will take longer because Nelson may now have to do more than just straighten up the shoe (if it got bent when pulled) and more than just tidy up the hoof. And besides that, Maggie is gonna be mad because she wants HER horse shod and now Nelson (who can't say no) has to go out of his way to go to your house and put that shoe on (and maybe both shoes if you listen to our buddy, Howard here) :) and she doesn't get shoes on her horse and is cranky and when Nelson doesn't charge you that extra emergency trip charge, they have a fight and end up divorced....gee, can't you just call when your horse pulls that shoe?????? :) Miles of Smiles, Maggie Mieske mmieske@xxxxxxxxxxxxx http://arabianquest.com/samaha_arabians.htm "So many of our dreams seem impossible, then improbable, then inevitable."
