[RC] Do QH make good endurance horses - Ridecamp GuestPlease Reply to: Chris Littlefield clittlefield@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx or ridecamp@xxxxxxxxxxxxx ========================================== I have had the pleasure of riding my QH in endurance for 2 seasons. Our first season was strictly LD and our 2nd has been a mix. When our 3rd season starts, it'll be 50's and possibly a 75. He has a resting pulse of 34. Pulses down fast and is a solid, strong mover on the trail. He eats well, drinks without hesitation and doesn't care where he is in the pack. We have topped 10 almost all of our LD rides, received BC once. I don't try to Top 10 a 50. We keep a solid pace throughout and wherever we finish is ok with me. He doesn't have the tail in the air attitude at the vet checks as arabs, more like I'm a QH laid back trot which can be a pain but he gets the job done while taking care of himself and me on the trail. He was a working cattle horse and I am sure he probably has TB in him. QH's can be good endurance horses as long as you remember to train them accordingly. I took it slow and worked him up along with listening to every piece of advice that was offered. I will say this is definately an Arabs sport, but other breeds have done well also. Good luck and maybe we'll see you on a trail soon.
