Re: [RC] scary ride - cschiro

I have fallen off my horse in a huge state park before, but luckily my horse
made a huge circle and someone caught him for me. But not before I had tried my
best to keep my hands on the reins. I wasn't wearing gloves, so my fingers were
bloody for hanging on for dear life - I didn't want my horse to be yet another
loose horse lost in the woods. However, the last (!) time I fell off I was
three miles away from home riding around the "neighborhood". My horse spooked
and spun, I was tossed off but tried my best to keep hold of the reins. Because
of this he spun around again and leaped right over me. I remember the big dark
body and feet over me I just about hit the ground. I recall falling but it
seemed like forever and still hadn't hit the dirt. I was thinking "when am I
going to land?...am I still falling?" So I decided to find out and opened my
eyes. I saw grass everywhere. I guess I had finally hit...and in the process
knocking my self out (I was and always do wear a helmet). Freaky! As happened
to me before, I couldn't move, not
because I was in pain, I just couldn't move! After a few minutes I could move
my legs but my shoulder felt crunched and compacted. I layed there until a car
saw me and called 911. Yeah, my first ambulande ride. Well the story ends that
Cody galloped 3 miles homes (according to eye-witnesses), I had a fractured
collarbone, and I couldn't wait to get back on and ride again!

I know I've herd of riders falling off their horses and the horse taking
off-never to be found again. Well, it almost happened to me! Riding in the
state park we (my horse and I) got caught in the cold rain, she was spooked
by this and veared off to the side of the trail during a trot. I must have
been pulling back on the reins because I felt her loose her balance, I fell
off and in the process let go of the reins. As I hit the ground all I could
see were feet trotting off down the trail! I stood up and yelled for her to
stop. She did but only because her front leg was caught in the reins-they had
gone over her head when I fell.Otherwise, for that slpit second on the ground
I felt the same way someone would if the locked themselves out of the car
with the engine running! I don't know how I'd feel if she had run off-or if
she would make it back to the trail center. It would have been a LONG walk
back for me!
