Re: [RC] spooking/pedigree culprit - Maryanne Stroud GabbaniMom's make a world of difference.I had two mares that I adore and sons from each. And then a son of one mare by the son of the other. All of Dory's kids are level-headed to the utmost degree and gentle, easy-going souls. Not much of a spook in any of them and their mother could be re-named Spookbusters. She never fusses at a thing. The son of Nimbus, who is the father of Dory's last effort Fagr, is so much more like his mother. He decides to spook at things and I know damn well that it's rubbish. She was exactly the same way. All the colts have been raised with both mares and in a group with each other with plenty of handling from birth, so I've eliminated that. Since Fagr is basically a xerox of his mother in both temperament and looks, I'm giving top marks to Dory for the personality. Nim was a beauty and she passed on a few months ago at the age of 30 odd. Her son Nayzak was gelded after slyly siring Fagr (Who me? I wouldn't do a thing like that!). So now Dory is my only mare for breeding and I'm very happy with that. If I sold her offspring, I'd have people standing in lines for them. But I'm greedy and I love riding my own horses. And these guys are all from that "notoriously un-mellow" background of Egyptians.
