[RC] Headlamps/Tevis - Ridecamp GuestPlease Reply to: Karen Nelson knelson@xxxxxxxxxx or ridecamp@xxxxxxxxxxxxx ========================================== I second EVERYTHING Julie said about the distraction from the "headlamps". There is also the problem of the headlamp bobbing up/down/left/right as the head of the rider moves around. This mystery light moving around in the otherwise dark is scary for some horses, and a rider has NO RIGHT to so severely endanger other riders on Tevis or any other trail. I have found that there are a couple of things connected to the use of the glow bars. Fasten them on both ends to your breast collar. Use grey tape or whatever. If you fasten only one end, they swing and cause a level of nausea. They can also frighten a horse. Please take the time and make at least one ride in the nighttime on familar trail WITH the glowbars attached to your breastcollar. You will give your horse at least a chance to experience this item in the safety of trails you know. I was riding on the Cal Loop with riders who had glowbars attached, as I did, and going up the short chute that starts to the right and swings to the left in only a few strides. The rider in front of me had not trained with glowbars. His horse tucked his head to dig in and pack his rider up the chute. The horse saw the glowbar on his breastcollar and started to BACK UP into me and Rapunzaal. I then started to block the rider behind me. Lots of shouting- Go up-Go up, etc. It was scary to say the least. No escape room. The rider admitted he had NOT trained before with glowbars on the horse. Not real smart, IMO. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
