Re: [RC] disappointed in first ride - Kristen Fisher \(NC\)Carrie - I agree that much more care could have been taken to make you feel welcome, especially from the ride officials stand point [I have yet to go to a ride where the vets/RM don't have a "new rider" meeting after the regular ride meeting]. One good way to meet people in camp is to talk to them here first! I have met quite a few people on line who I then sought out at camp. [Jen - you're next!] But do give it another try, it will be well worth it. If you do travel by yourself, you may want to make sure your next ride has an in-camp vet check [so you will be near all your own supplies]. It will usually say this on the docs/ride description, but if not email the RM and ask. And let them know you are new and if they know anyone who is going to go slow, or is also new, to hook you up [and remind them when you check in at camp]. The first one was very hard I felt the same as you but it will get better. I find now that I am slowly meeting new people. I still hang out with my horse and am kinda still by myself but it is getting better. It takes a lot of guts and courage to do this by yourself. I usually sit by my horse and trailer and people watch which I always think is interesting. My first ride I watched the ladies next to me fight with someone who parked too close to them. Oh brother they went at it. Oh and here is some great advice... The ride in which I met the most people was the one where I had to park next to the porta potty. I know sounds gross but it worked. Please give it another try I promise it will get better.
