[RC] Disappointed at a ride - GarnerT

I have to say that it's up to the riders to try to help out. Obviously, you
can't help if a person doesn't know to have a crew bag ready, etc., but look
around. A person can usually tell when someone is having a problem, or
something is wrong. Ask if you can help! I've ended up sharing things with
people who didn't know to bring something to a ride. The people I ride with
have had to share & be very patient with me as I learned this sport. I've
had to share hay with someone who just didn't bring hay for their horse. It
ticked me off to give hay to someone who said "they forgot," but decided
that their horse deserved hay for the weekend. Luckily, I'm an over packer
& had plenty of hay for my horse & her horse!

Although I've far less experience than most of you, I've mentored someone on
their first LD, & it's amazing what they don't know! I'd forgotten how it
feels to know nothing! We should all take someone on their first ride to
remind us of that feeling. I've also noticed people who were confused on
the trail, at the vet checks, etc., & I've always asked if they need
anything! I don't think we should just blame the Ride Managers for the
overall tone of the ride, we constitute the ride!

Most of us care about each other, most ride managers & vets care, we just
need to be a little more observant to the people around us!
