[RC] portable corrals - June Scheunemann & Mike BernsdorfWe use electric fencing but...we use the 1 1/2 inch white tape fencing...we put up 2 strands and we buy the step in posts from premier fencing...I think they are 5 foot....which puts the fencing up higher than the little step in posts from Fleet Farm. The biggest thing is to make sure you put the electric on!! If I have a horse that looks like they are going to get excited with other horses leaving I tie them to the trailer. We've had good luck with this...as it is very visible for our horses and for any others who get loose. I really think it's whatever your horse is use to. I've seen quite few horses get hung up on the hi-tie things ...end up with bad rope burns and usually they have to be cut free and their weight on the tie rope is so great that even the panic snaps won't release. Even picket lines have had bad results.....so it's all depending on the horse and what they are use to. I do think using the wide white tape and putting up 2 strands helps the horse respect the fencing more than the think single rope style.
