Would like to send out a Big Thanks to Mary Beth and Ken
Alkire for managing the Kootenai Klassic ride in Libby MT last weekend.
We had a little rain to deal with and some not so nice trail vandalizing but
other wise everything went well. I felt so sorry for Mary Beth when she
had to come out and re-mark trail as I know she was very frustrated. I
gave her a big hug when I got back to camp after that loop. I just
wanted her to know that it surely wasn't her fault that some
yaahoos pulled ribbon from her trail.
Kootenai Klassic is a very beautiful ride in NW
Montana. It has a lot of elevation to it, but good trails and some
awesome views. It is in the beautiful pine forest of the NW. I
guess I would like to say to all you NW riders that I wish some day you would
try to make a point of coming to this ride. If the Alkires put it on
again......I hope. I know there was another Idaho ride this weekend and
am not out to sabotage it. I also know for a lot of you in the NW coming
to Montana for a ride is a long distance to travel, especially when you have
rides practically right out your back door. It is pretty much an every
ride occurrence that we in Montana have to travel anywhere from 400 to 600
miles to get to a ride anywhere. Even getting to Libby for me was a 200
mile drive and that is currently my closest ride to get to. Am not
whining as I love the sport and am willing to drive the miles. $2.00 a
gallon be d**ned. I just want to let you know that next year if this
ride is offered again I am going to get on ridecamp and send out an invitation
to you all to take an extra day or two off work to come to Montana for
this very hospitable, very beautiful ride.
Mary Beth offered a trail ride, 25, 50, 75, and 100.
There were only 3 in the 75 and no one took her up on the 100. So if
looking for distance with not much competition this is a good ride to come
to. Also since it is usually held in the last part of June, you have a
lot of daylight to complete. Is a good thing.
You'll be hearing from me next year about this time. I
hope!
