Back in the 70's, geez was it that long ago, my horse used to get heat
bumps. What I started to do was to loosen the girth about 1/4 mile before
the vet check and walk my horse in. By the time we got there I assume his
back had enough pressure released that the bumps did not appear when I took off
his saddle. Since then I have made this a practice whenever I ride
including at home. I always dismount and release the girth and walk back
to the barn. Hope this helps.
