Re: [RC] was Paragon Saddle - now Indian made - Suzi Maiorisi
I have an Indian made Aussie/Western saddle that I got on Ebay. While
it doesn't fit Holly - gaited Morgan - as well as I'd like we've managed to log
LOTS of miles in training on it. The leather - maybe it's the water
buffalo thing? - is one of my favorite things about it. Has a little grip
to it, not as slippery as other saddles I've got and have ridden and it has felt
perfectly broken in from day one. My knees (s/p 3 arthroscopies) have
hurt in most saddles I've ridden, but from the first day I've never hurt in this
saddle. The leather is very pliable but very strong, too. I'm saddle
shopping now (have ordered my new one) as that saddle really doesn't fit Holly
very well, but I'll be keeping it as a back up. I've bought 5 other
saddles since I got that one and keep going back to the old tried and true and
most comfortable saddle (for me anyway) I own.

Indian made
India made saddles are not necessarily a bad thing. It's
like everything else in the world. There are good ones and cheapo
ones.
I got a $300 paragon knock off made in India. Wasn't
a regency, don't remember the name brand. It was really well built. Had
a good tree, etc. Got it for my husband.
It fit our
Morgan-Saddlebred cross perfectly and was a real pleasure to ride in on
trails.
It had a funky smell though. I took it to my local saddler
to have it checked over. He said it was constructed very well and that the
funky smell was the leather... it was made of water buffalo hide! He
said it should last forever.
After a few cleanings, the smell went
away. I really liked that saddle. Sold it when we sold the horse as the
saddle didn't fit my Arabs.
