YES!  Having owned and ridden both kinds, I much prefer the ones that have
their own proper carriage.

Ahh, but there is a big difference between using the
bit to help a horse balance and cranking the head down
to an unnatural position.

Indeed there is. But even MORE difference between a horse that needs the
bit to help balance and one that has sufficient self-carriage to not need
the extra help...  :-)
