Re: [RC] Letters to the World -- showing - Barbara McCraryBoth these posts inspire me to comment on the horse I am now riding. He still has his wolf teeth and this may be why he hates bit pressure. Or it may be because the man who bred and saddle trained him was very light-handed that this horse does not like a lot of bit pressure. I have been "forced" to lighten up my own hands, much to my delight, by this horse. Bless him, he goes down the trail on a relaxed rein in perfectly acceptable carriage. He doesn't go heavy on the forehand, and he feels well-balanced. We're both happy about this. I've ridden at least one horse in the past that was so sloppy on the forehand I had to hold him up with a tight rein. It's hard to say whether it was my fault or the horse's lack of natural athleticism, but had I loosened the contact, the horse would have fallen on his face. And they have their heads cranked down to their chest, saw on their mouths with the bit... ugh... chris --- Merryben@xxxxxxx wrote:I remember when we had the mid year meeting in Albuquerque and Becky and I went to the Arabian Nationals. I was barely walking without braces and stuff then and I swear I could have out run the cantering Arabs in the Western Pleasure class. And if one of them had tripped, they would have gone end over end. Their noses were no more than a foot off the ground. They looked simply awful. mb===== "A good horse makes short miles," George Eliot Chris and Star BayRab Acres http://pages.prodigy.net/paus ============================================================ I think home work is the key to having a healthy partner. ~ Steven Proe ridecamp.net information: http://www.endurance.net/ridecamp/ ============================================================ ============================================================ When you ask a Quarter horse for something he says - Sure - and when you ask an Arab for something he says - Why? - ~ Heidi Smith ridecamp.net information: http://www.endurance.net/ridecamp/ ============================================================
